The journey of Nepathya

  • Written by:

Nepathya’s nationwide ‘Education for Peace Concert’ tour has recently concluded on December 29, when it performed at Patan Durbar Square amidst a crowd that was been impatiently waiting for their turn to enjoy a band that has been on a roll to 10 districts across the country since December 6.

In a flashback, not one concert that they gave has been ordinary; it was extraordinary and overwhelming, as the crowd turned out in huge numbers and the organizers had something different planned that would make each performance memorable. They made snowfall in Gulariya, Bardia, when nepa~laya – the manager of the tour – arranged for artificial foam to resemble the snowflakes. They surprised the unsuspecting schoolchildren with their arrival in Damak, as the band performed their favorite numbers. It was the same school that was rebuilt after their ‘Education for Peace Concert’ tour provided financial support nine years ago.

This is the fifth instalment of the tour and like all the tours in the past, they have dared to venture to different places. This time, they toured to Ratnanagar, Birat Chowk, Damak, Lalbandi, Taulihawa, Gulariya, Lamahi, Abu Khaireni, Beni, Gagan Gaunda Lekhnath and lastly in Patan. Their aim of touring all over the country has been to raise awareness about the importance of violence free education to the young minds of the country.

Amrit Gurung, the front man of the band, has been actively working for this cause. Of his 24 years’ journey in the Nepali music industry, he has been active in the social causes that gently condemn violence through the peace concerts that have been widely lauded. The previous ‘Education for Peace Concert’ tours have garnered a historic review from their fans around the world, as the insurgency and conflict rampant in the country didn’t stop them from doing what they did best – sing – to soothe the burning Nepali hearts. Needless to say, Nepathya is one the most popular bands of the country.

Nepathya achieved a historic feat as they became the first Nepali band to perform in the Wembley Arena in London in August this year. After that, this 24-day tour in 11 destinations has been their next project. Audience, consisting of young and old alike, and media have covered their every move enthusiastically.

With 10 albums and numerous tours all over the world, Nepathya has been deemed a very socially aware band, as their generous helps to schools and social institutions in many districts have been appreciated by many.

Nepathya’s concert at Patan Durbar Square is scheduled to start at 6 in the evening.
