Nepalgunj’s Nary Thapa becomes first woman to score a century in domestic cricket

KATHMANDU, JAN 04 –
Nary Thapa became the first batswoman in domestic cricket to score a century as she amassed unbeaten 121 in Nepalgunj’s massive 115-run win over Kathmandu during the Senior Women’s National Cricket Tournament at the TU ground on Friday.
The first captain of the women’s team, Nary had been out of form after receiving a blow in her right eye in a domestic match two years ago in Pokhara but announced her return to form with a magnificent century.
The 21-year-old surpassed the best individual score of 92 runs made by Madhu Thapa. The former Bhairahawa player Madhu, who now plays for APF Club, scored the runs against Birgunj during the national tournament in 2009.
The left-hander, batting at No 3, came to the crease in the very first over when Laxmi Chaudhary (0) was dismissed in the fifth ball. Nary smashed 21 fours in her unbeaten 128-ball knock. She raced to 50 off 52 balls and took another 49 balls for her maiden century. She had also scored a half century on Thursday.
Nary featured in 56-run second-wicket stand with Geeta Gosai (16) and 149-run third-wicket partnership with Trishna Singh (33) as Nepalgunj posted 205-2, the highest total in women’s domestic cricket, in 40 overs.
In reply, Samana Pun grabbed five wickets as Nepalgunj bowled Kathmandu out for 90 runs in 29.4 overs. Opener Sandhya KC (34) was the only batswoman to show some resistance. Samjhana Sharma took two wickets while Anu KC and Rekha BC claimed one each.
