The Executive Council of Tribhuvan University (TU) on Wednesday sacked Dr Sashi Sharma, the newly appointed dean at the Institute of Medicine (IoM), following his refusal to resign voluntarily.

The decision of the Executive Council comes within 24 hours of an ultimatum by Chairman of the interim government Khlaraj Regmi to revoke Dr Sharma´s appointment as the new dean at IOM.

Meanwhile, Dr Govinda KC, a senior professor at IoM who is on a fast-unto-death since the last 12 days, is still not in a mood to break his hunger strike.

Dr KC has been on hunger strike, calling for the fulfillment of his six-point demand, including reinstatement of previous IoM dean Prakash Sayami. He claims that Prof. Sayami was humiliated and forced to resign after he refused to grant IoM affiliation to new medical colleges
